Quantum-continuum framework for the limiting charge of metal nanoparticles in contact with substrates

Запропоновано гібридний теоретичний підхід для оцінки максимального заряду, який металева наночастинка може набути внаслідок тунельного контакту з провідною напівпровідниковою підкладинкою. Метод поєднує аналітичні співвідношення та самоузгоджені розрахунки Кона–Шема для роботи виходу електрона, потенціалу іонізації та критичного заряду ізольованої частинки, вбудованої в діелектричне середовище. Ці величини отримано в рамках теорії функціоналу густини з використанням моделі вільних електронів та згодом адаптовано для благородних металів. Ємність частинки оцінюється за допомогою моделі контактної механіки Джонсона–Кендалла–Робертса як для жорстких, так і для м’яких діелектричних проміжків. Показано, що контактна з діелектриком область може суттєво змінювати потенціал іонізації, особливо для м’яких проміжків. Отримано аналітичний вираз для максимальної кількості електронів, які можуть бути перенесені на частинку, що визначає діапазон досяжних надлишкових зарядів як функцію пружних властивостей проміжка. Оцінки порівнюються з експериментальними даними, отриманими за допомогою силової мікроскопії з зондом Кельвіна для заряджених наночастинкою. Також обговорюється фізичне походження контактної різниці потенціалів в експериментах.
