The x-ray investigations of the TmFeO3 single- crystal in the region of spontaneous spin reorientation exhibit no lattice distortions which would occur if the lattice symmetry was reduced from rhombic to monoclinic. This supports the purely magnetic nature of the Г2–Г24–Г4 spin rotation in orthoferrites.
